Afac introduces twonew interactive,
online tools to help customers
assess benefts needs— fast
Making informed decisions about often perplexing
insurance benefits needs became easier — and faster — for
consumers in November 2012, when Aflac launched two
new interactive, online tools on Aflac.com.
In less than 10 minutes, the Aflac Wellbeing Assessment
Tool allows consumers to determine whether their existing
insurance coverage provides adequate financial protection for
anticipated and unexpected expenses, and the Aflac Benefits
Assessment Tool helps benefits decision-makers compare
their benefits program with national best-in-class offerings.
Both tools incorporate findings from the
AflacWorkForcesReport.

employees drive
philanthropy results
You are probably aware that Aflac Cancer
and Blood Disorder Center of Children’s
Healthcare of Atlanta patients, their
families and staff truly appreciate Aflac
employees for making fund-raising ini-
tiatives successful, but did you know that
in late 2012 two Cancer Center patients
helped drive philanthropic efforts?
Monica Sandoval, a 17-year old leukemia
patient at the Aflac Cancer Center and
designer of the 2012 Aflac Holiday Duck,
helped host an Aflac Twitter party on
Nov. 29, 2012. With Aflac donating
$2 for each tweet or retweet that used
#aflackids, the hour-long online event,
along with another held in September for $1 donations, helped
boost Twitter activity by almost 35,000 tweets that reached
more than 6 million people. According to
Jon Sullivan
,
Corporate Communications, based on those results Aflac
donated $52,848 to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder
Center.
Meanwhile, 9-year old patient Danielle Samsury designed
the newest Beads of Courage bead available to Aflac Cancer
Center patients. Selected during a design contest conducted
among 10 hospitals across the country, the bead depicts a fish
swimming upstream, and, as with the other Beads of Courage,
signifies a particular treatment milestone reached by patients.
New this year, the beads, designed to be worn in strands, will
be offered to not only hematology and oncology patients, but to
their siblings as well.

The Aflac Cancer Center offers a huge voice of
thanks to Aflac employees for supporting the
fight against childhood cancer for nearly 20
years.
Dan Amos:
Great companies don’t
duck tough issues
Speaking at the Boston College Chief
Executives’ Club luncheon in late November,
Dan Amos,
chairman and CEO, gave advice
that made his position on transparency clear:
Bad news does not improve with age, so it’s best
to address the issue openly — and immediately.
Recalling the March 2011 earthquake and
tsunami in Japan and related insensitive
comments made by comedian and former
provider of the Aflac Duck’s voice, Gilbert
Gottfried, Dan told the assembled business
leaders that his rapid, subsequent actions
helped maintain credibility with investors,
employees, customers and sales agents.
As for his decision to travel to Japan despite radiation
warnings and his mother’s objections, he feels comfortable
with the outcome. “The events we faced proved to me that
when you’re decisive, you’re transparent and, ultimately,
when you’re trying to do the right thing, it will reflect in your
company and in your image,” he remarked.
