and LOMA certifcations to all employees
interested in learningmore about the insur-
ance industry or about management. These
classes are specially designed to help you
advance in your career at Afac. After suc-
cessful completion of one of the programs,
your internal resume refects the achieve-
ment, which is valued by Afac hiring man-
agers. Here are the two areas of certifcation
available to you:
Leadership Development:
You don’t have to be a member of man-
agement to earn your Leadership De-
velopment certifcation. It’s available
to anyone interested in a management
career or in learning more about lead-
ership and decision-making skills.
There are three levels of leadership
certifcation: Leadership Development
I, Leadership Development II and
Leadership Development III. Each re-
quires six to eight Corporate Learning
classes for completion. Start by regis-
tering for a class and obtaining your
manager’s approval to attend. Once
you have completed all of the required
classes, you’ll be certifed.
LOMA
LOMA is a nationally recognized pro-
fessional program designed to provide
industry training and knowledge.

For the
health
conscious
Health screenings:
Throughout the year, Health Services
ofers many no- and low-cost medical
screenings to employees. In 2012, em-
ployees were ofered screenings for blood
pressure, osteoporosis, skin cancer, colo-
noscopy and mammograms, as well as lab
profles and fu shots. Watch the intranet
for screening dates and times.
On-site medical clinics:
Afac in Columbus ofers two on-sitemed-
ical clinics to employees, one at PSA and
one at the Tower.
PSA clinic:
Before visiting the clinic, you’ll need to
purchase a $10 voucher at the PSA secu-
rity desk to be seen by a nurse practitio-
ner or physician’s assistant. In addition
to taking health histories and conducting
physical exams, they can diagnose and
treat acute health problems, prescribe
prescription and non-prescription medi-
cations, provide health-care instructions
and counseling and refer patients to other
health-care professionals as needed.
They also verify paperwork for employees
returning from Family Medical Leave, as
long as no work restrictions are involved.
Clinic hours are Monday through Friday
from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Tower Clinic:
Betty Shepard
, Health
Services, is the registered nurse at Afac’s
Tower clinic. A voucher is not required to
visit Betty because she doesn’t prescribe
medications. She does, however, assess
patients, dispense over-the-counter
medications, provide care for injured or
sick employees, monitor vital signs, treat
minor wounds, provide patient informa-
tion and arrange care by a doctor or at a
hospital. Betty also verifes the paperwork
of employees returning to work with or
without restrictions after they’ve been on
FML. The Tower clinic’s hours are Mon-
day through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. and
2 to 4 p.m.
