Employee benefits are a key indicator of employee satisfaction, retention and productivity.
The 2013 Aflac WorkForces Report, revealed that workers who are extremely or very satisfied
with their benefits program are three times more likely to stay with their employer than those
workers who are dissatisfied with their benefits program.

Though employers have long recognized the importance of employee benefits, now – more
than ever – benefits will make a big difference for employee satisfaction, retention and
productivity. In fact, nearly 1-in-2 U.S. employees say that improving their benefits is one thing
their employer can do to keep them in their job (see “Benefits Matter”).

While health care reform is expanding access to individuals and those who may not have
had access to health care in the past, many will continue to see higher co-pays, premiums,
deductibles and other out-of-pocket expenses.
Workforce demographics such as household income will have an impact on eligibility for
affordability programs such as Medicaid or APTCs. Low-wage employees may benefit
more from the Health Insurance Marketplace subsidies than the employer contribution from
employer-sponsored coverage.
